Dare to Experience the Thrill of the Chill
Chestertown, MD – Be there rain, snow, sleet or hail, nothing will stop the amazing flock of people who will be jumping into the Chesapeake Bay during Kent Center’s Goose Bump Jump on Saturday, November 12 at Betterton Beach. This annual fundraiser supports adults who have developmental disabilities.
This year, the Kent Center hopes to fill Betterton Beach with family, friends, and supporters to raise $40,000 (or more!) to match a grant from the Maryland Transportation Authority for three new buses.
In addition to helping raise money to support the work of Kent Center, the Jump is just plain fun! There will be music and prizes, and don’t forget to come to the Melt Down Party following the Jump at Betterton Fire Company. For those who really want to have a good time, costumes are not only encouraged, but there are awards for the best individual and team costumes.
For the Jump, Flocks of individuals and teams must raise a minimum of $25 per person as their entry fee, which entitles them to participate in the jump, to receive an official Goose Bump Jump tee shirt, and entry into the post-jump Melt Down Party. Most importantly, every participant will have the really awesome feeling of doing something a little over the top to help some very special people in our community. This family friendly event is just ‘wild’ enough to attract people of all ages.
Bathing suits, wet suits, and dry suits are permitted but costumes are heartily encouraged!
Prizes are awarded at the post-jump Melt Down party, held at Betterton Fire Hall, for the youngest and oldest participants as well as for the teams and individuals who raise the most money and have the best costumes. Additionally, the Golden Goose Award will be presented to the individual or team that raises the most money (per person).
Registration begins on the beach at 9 a.m. A Costume Parade, Celebrity Introductions, and a Group Photo will kick-off at 10:30 followed by the Jump at 11. All attendees are then welcome to warm up with lunch at the Betterton Volunteer Fire Company during the festive Melt Down party.
Buses will be transporting flockers back and forth from the parking lot at the Betterton Volunteer Fire Company to the beach, as parking at the beach will be very limited.
The Kent Center is grateful for the amazing team of volunteers that pull this event together every year.
We are so fortunate to have such a supportive extended Kent Center family.
Admission to the Melt Down Party for landlubbers is just $10 per person ($5 for children); tickets may be purchased at the beach.
Additional participants are invited to join the fun. Registration forms are available. Minors who are participating in the jump are required to have parental consent and signatures before entering the beach area. For more information, call Kent Center at 410-778-7303.
